The Heart of the Matter

Dear Readers  – I am asking for your help. I am asking you to journey with me. We live in total privilege in a world that does have enough resources to feed its people….but there are people around the world, 27 million of them, who live in slavery.

Does that embarrass you? Does that totally overwhelm you? Do you feel like you can’t make a difference? Caught between helplessness and guilt?

I have joined with a group of women who are creative, talented and enthusiastic about making lasting change for people. We call ourselves ‘unfolding hope’ and we are raising money to donate to a charity called Free The Slaves - an organisation aiming to eradicate the trade and enslavement of people within our lifetime.

Would you read the pages at the top of this page under “unfolding hope” and would you donate to our efforts? There is a place to donate button on the right.
Thank you so much for your encouragement to me and for allowing me to raise my voice.

“None of us is truly free while others remain enslaved. The continuing existence of slavery is one of the greatest tragedies facing our global humanity. Today we finally have the means, and increasingly the conviction, to end this scourge and to bring millions of slaves to freedom”
—Desmond Tutu

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do. – Helen Keller.
Who we are, what we do, how we give – this is our chance to change the world – please join us.

Thank You.

Rites of Passage

I think there's something about boys and fishing.... I'm not sure what the appeal is....
Long hours in the baking sun with nothing happening?

Physical exertion pulling the fish in?
Slimy fish jumping around half dead?
Small hooks that may become embedded in your finger?
So much to love! No?
Then I look at photos of the weekend when my boys, Daddy and Pop fished and I'm glad they have the opportunity.
And Flip caught the biggest fish!

Wardrobe Wednesday #13, Make My Week#13, Mad Men Challenge #2

Here I am again with a triple post! This is my second offering as part of adorable Julia's Mad Men Challenge.

This is my version of the 'wiggle dress' which seems to feature prominently in the series and also heavily inspired by the Joan 'va-va -voom' Holloway character - who has a seriously womanly figure.

When I made this dress I added quite a lot in the bust department (about 2 sizes worth) but when I finished it my 'cup was running over', if you know what I mean!! So I added in the pleated section along the neckline in the reverse of the fabric.

To stop it being too dated looking I added the exposed zip on the back and used more modern jewellery.
The fabric is the same old curtain I used for the top of my other mad men dress. I do love this colour. I also added in the blue velvet ribbon as a little bit of detail and ......I did a blind hem (my mother will be so proud).

Teamed up with:
Earrings - Budapest on our 5th wedding anniversary, Necklace - Trade Aid, Rings - D/K c/o- my sis, Greek inscription ring I designed and The Atlas got made for our 2nd anniversary, Shoes - TKmaxx in the UK.

Pop over and see what other people are wearing at Nin's the theme for March is Homemade!

Also linking in on Thursday with other Creative Spaces
Pretty new to all this blogger stuff so feel free to give me pointers. You can see all my other posts over here.

My Place and Yours Kitchen

Just for a bit of fun on my 'new' blog I thought I would join in with Deb and Lou on the 'my place and yours' series.

This is my kitchen which I love!
My little jugs

my mother in laws special German table cloth bought for her by her mother in law

ginger bread men

This is the place I spend nearly all my time so I like that it has pretty things in it - makes me feel like I am playing house instead of in forced domestic labour!! ;-)

Pop over and have a look at some other kitchens here!

B.M.W.B #13 - Last of the Summer

I made a rash promise the other day that when, if we ever, have a 'really hot' day we could have a water fight.

Today it was HOT so we ran around the back garden with our squirt guns having fun (well Flip and I had fun Bounce loved the idea until he got squirted).

and then we spent the rest of the afternoon playing with mobilo (we got it as a Christmas gift)

It was a relaxed afternoon, well spent. And when daddy got home we raced our 'Dune Bugs' up the hallway together.

Then this evening I sat with Bounce quietly on my knee and asked him questions - what is your favourite vege? what is your favourite fruit? who is your fav friend? what is your fav thing to do with mama? what is your fav thing to do with daddy? what do you like to have most in your lunchbox? what is your favourite story? .... he surprised me with some of his answers and the way he thought and gave a concise answer to every question.

What have you been up to lately?

This year I am making more of a conscious effort to have quality moments with my boys. B.M.W.B (becoming the mama I want to be)  is my way of recording and hopefully inspiring other mama’s too. Please inspire me with the little moments you are snatching with your little people OR with ideas I could do with mine. If you have blogged about it please leave a comment so we can all visit and encourage each other.

Simple. Intentional. Achievable: becoming the mama I want to be.
